Jon Jonsson's Blog

Jon_jonsson_1He never seemed destined for literary pursuits so the existence of this blog by Bravo's Manhunt modeling contest winner Jon Jonsson is a surprise. Still, it does contain the kind of earnest thinking we've come to know from the surfer/astrophysicist.

On New York: "...there was nothing that could prepare me for the horrible hellish weather here. Granted it could always be colder, but for Christ’s sakes it feels like every single step I take is a step closer to a bone chilling death."

On Bruce Weber: "This is a mere mortal human being who is able to turn regular moments in time, into amazing works of art. For me to be able to meet a person I respect so much is truly a gift and to be able to get pointers from him, which consisted mostly of just having fun and being myself, felt like an aspiring artist getting tips from Leonardo DaVinci himself."

On death by war vs. nature (tsunami): "The war in Iraq has claimed almost the same number of innocent civilians, yet is deemed as such a great affair by so many people. Is it a better death to fall at the hands of one corrupt leader who kills to feed the greed of those who influence him, or to fall at the hands of Mother Nature?"

We're definitely stoked to hear more from this model philosopher. On the main part of his site you can buy some hunky prints for tsunami relief.

  1. In the interest of accuracy, I'd like to point out that the death toll in Iraq is nowhere near that of the tsunami.

  4. i have nothing nice to say, so i'm not
    going to say it..!

  5. death toll estimates for the war and the tsunami are certainly comparable. cnn reports of 100, 000 iraqi civilian deaths since the invasion. or perhaps you weren't counting iraqis.

  6. Bruce Webber = Leonardo DaVinci?????

    Posted by: Robb | Jan 26, 2005 12:54:00 PM

  7. BRIAN-- Even if you assume the 100,000 Iraqi deaths quote is accurate, the Tsunami toll is 200,000 plus today.

In any case, I love the fact that Jon's raising aid money by selling photos. If he were truly dedicated, he'd start selling the nudes from Manhunt! Come on Jon, don't you care about those suffering in Asia?!!!

  8. Cory: The 100,000 death estimate is a very loose one, and the Lancet itself admits the uncertainty of judging the actual number due to the fact that Iraq is still a combat area.

The majority of other reports, however, peg the Iraqi death toll at around 15,000-17,000.

However, pretty much all the major news agencies have agreed that the tsunami death toll is somewhere in the 150k+ region.

I'll refrain from a similarly snide ending comment.

  9. The guy has some interesting things to say. And despite whatever inaccuracy it holds, it's a very interesting insight into his world. It makes me admire him more for trying to be who he is and trying to find his place in the world.

  14. I hate to spoil everyone's hating on Jon; but he is a smart guy. Cal. Poly Tech.: he was studying Astro-Physics when he got the call for the Bravo show. Guys...jealousy is so freaking ugly.

  16. Jon is very extremely intelligent as well as an insightful human being. He is a person who has the ability to see beyond himself despite his incredible mindblowing looks to substantive issues in the real world so to speak . He will be successful in all areas of his life because of his ability to keep his head on earth despite all the hectic craziness surronding him. He is the most deserving of good things in his life , he will go far because of his mindfullness and spirit. These are the things that really matter in this world but are so often given little value.

Congratulations Jon , you deserve the best in life,

  18. Jon is a smart cookie. Anyone who thinks he is some stupid surfer just has a Queen Elizabeth complex and should get off their high horse. We really don't have any Iraqi death toll at all. Do you really think the US government would tell us the truth about how many innocnt civilians we've slaughtered. Do you know that the situation is so out of control, that packs of wild dogs roam the streets and eat human corpses? Jon is a sensitive soul with something to say. He appears to be a very spiritual being not tied down to the constraints of organized religion.

Anway, Jon is very interesting and intelligent but more importantly, he is FINE. LOL, yes he is so smoking hot that my retinas are on fire! So please just consider how hard it must be for him - I mean he may even get frightened when he looks in the mirror by how hot he is! Ok, just kidding, but he really is that hot. Anyway, Jon is my special eye-candy and he is also great brain-candy. Yeah, he is one perfect man.
