Defying Gravity

MadgeMadonna's new album to be called Defying Gravity according to The Sun newspaper, and strangely enough, the leak appears to be the exact same leak American Life was given: "Madonna has played her new material to Warner label bosses and they love it. There is a rockier edge and the usual electronic influence. The label are really excited and believe it is full of hit singles." Blah, blah, blah, just answer the important question. Does she rap about soy lattes in this one?

And while the NY Daily News' Rush & Molloy report that Madonna mouthpiece Liz Rosenberg says the new tracks are "incredible" just like a publicist should, word about the Jonas Akerlund Truth or Dare-esque documentary, recently rejected by Cannes, is that it just ain't all that: "More than half of the film is about how the kabbala has enriched her life. People do not want to see this from Madonna. They want to be shocked. All of the juicy stuff - like Madonna and [husband] Guy Ritchie arguing - was cut out by Madge herself because she wanted to show how much the kabbala has changed her."

Meanwhile, Voguing, which Madonna strikingly brought to the mainstream's attention in 1990, lives on in a new generation...according to the NYT, profiling the 25th anniversary of the New York-based House of Ultra-Omni. "Mr. Harp arrived in Los Angeles prepared to walk in a category called Butch Queen Realness, a kind of extravagantly performed commentary on self-presentation, in which an out gay man impersonates an apparently straight or closeted gay man by wearing a costume that exaggeratedly telegraphs masculinity."

  1. Madonna who?

  2. Does anyone want to take the time to explain to Wayne who Madonna is? I would, but I do not have the time to list all of her accomplishments, I am in a rush...

  3. Though American Life wasn't a commercial hit, it was still an amazing album. I can't wait for this one... she may be in her 40s, but she still gets better and better with each album.

  4. I love how Trent picked the ugliest picture he could find of Madonna's Sin City outing on his blog!

BTW, the reports quoted are sort of rehashes of a million gossip column tidbits put into one semi-coherent paragraph. I will eat my words if the film is re-edited to be a Kabollocks fluff piece, but as far as I know, nothing has indicated that this is the case thus far.

    Phew!

  6. Given all the negetive comments that seem to abound of late, I have to ask: Are we all really that jaded, cynical, mean-spirited?

All Mr. Rourke once said (aside from "fine Corinthean leather"), "Smiles, everyone. Smiles"

(Did I just show signs of my age???)

  7. No, we're not mean and jaded. We're just epically bored with Madonna, that's all....

  8. When I was in high school in the early eighties and having a hard time coming to grips with my sexuality (no role models on tv, no internet..) there was suddenly this amazing singer who was blowing everyone away and guess what? She, very vocally, said gay guys were cool. The biggest star in the universe at the time was on my side. She helped me feel good about who I was and I'll always be grateful for her for that-

  9. Amen, Greg. I feel the exact same way, growing up during the 80s in the midwest at a time when nobody spoke of homosexuality, no gay characters were on tv, and only leather queens and transexuals could be seen on the news. Madonna was ahead of anyone else showing that it was not only okay to be gay, but cool. She'll always be one of my heros.

  10. I know some will find it ridiculous that this American woman, whom I have never met, or even seen in concert, is responsible for many of the few moments of uncensored pride I was able to have between the ages of 12 and 19 (and, of course, MANY more after that). That age period when some young men realize with terror that things are not turning out to be the way they were told they were going to. That it was NOT just a phase many boys go through. That, yes, many of the jokes some of your loved ones made, and you laughed about, were really in a way about you. It was then that seeing Madonna, listening to Madonna, or reading about Madonna made (and still makes) me feel good about myself. I don't care about explaining how, the important thing is that she did it when I really needed it. Even if some of these actions required the aid of a dictionary, and a rewind and pause button because I did not speak English back then.
Anyway, what I am trying to say is that: Trendy or not trendy... with Kabbalah bracelets or crucifixes... with Sean, or Guy... with Dolce, Gautier, or simple lace. Madonna already has a couple of pages in the book of ME!

  12. She's lookin like Gollum lately

  13. Madonna is and will always be my favorite performer. I also came of age in the 80s and no one spoke to me like Madonna. I knew I was gay from the time I can remember and I could always find joy, freedom and pride from Madonna's music. I love her for that and for the countless hours of joy she has brought to me through her music, movies, and celebrity in general. From her first to her last album, she has proven time and again that her artistry is true and amazing and she will shine again with her next album.

  14. i really have this weird feeling that she's in the studio with scissor sisters.

    think about it
    - they're hot in the UK
    - they just worked with kylie/madonna recently posted a kylie statement on her website (professional courtesy?)
    - they are both at LIVE 8
    - "a more rock edge" to the new record?

...or maybe it's just wishful thinking!

  15. I think what is interesting about Veronica "Esther" Electronica is her transformation from the "juicy stuff" of the banal, to the "juicy stuff" of wisdom, power, responsibility, and love. Her music and her persona have always inspired people to see the creative potential nestled within everyone. In her last album she talked about wanting to improve her life, know everything, getting lost in space, and boredom with simple-minded explanations of the world. While her life has evolved to become one that is about spreading light in these dark times/kali yuga, most of her fans and enemies are still stuck in the past, still lost in the loins of potential. She has become a very unique sort of "wounded healer." Madonna has thrown a gauntlet to the world: Do you want to be your best? Do you want to become the wisest and brightest you can be? Do you want to be quicker than a ray of light? Do you want to leave the lie that you are just a man, just a weak and powerless man? While most gay men have abandoned their divine and powerful potential and settled for smooth cloned bodies, sex obsessions, materialism, and uninspired ideas for gays in society, she has given a gift..."No matter what you did...No matter who you are...No matter where you've come from, you can always change...Become a better version of yourself"-M
