road.jpg Johnny Knoxville passed the time on The Dukes of Hazzard set by flashing his testicles at Seann William Scott. Scott: "I'm trying to drive the car, trying to pull stunts, and he'd go, 'Hey Seann, look over here.' And he pulls his balls out in front of me. Like, seriously. A lot. All the time. What are you supposed to do there?" Sounds like Knoxville and Ben Affleck would get along fine.

road.jpg Last year when Cargo magazine launched, I asked "would it hurt to relax the restrictions on the audience a little and assume that maybe a huge portion of the men buying Cargo might have boyfriends instead of girlfriends?" It appears that the magazine has actually chosen to go further toward its hetero agenda. So do straight men really love to shop or is it that beards really are back in style?

road.jpg Fluxblog has posted an mp3 of the Scissor Sisters upcoming release "Everybody Wants the Same Thing" from Live8 and reports on their performance last night at Mercury Lounge, giving a rave review to their new tracks.

  2. Yeah, Cargo's lost me. Same thing happened with Men's Health and all those "How to please HER" headlines.

It was a bad magazine for me anyway, made me spend WAY too much money on gadgets.

  3. two things:

    1. Fuck Cargo. It's so played, blogs give you WAY better and more topical stuff. Cargo is for losers who suck.

    2. Does anyone care about the Scissor Sisters anymore? Seriously. They're so soul-less.

  4. If someone made a hunky man/gadget magazine I'd be all over it...I mean really, we have all our alleged disposable income, gotta spend it somewhere!

  5. The guy's name is Ariel Foxman??? Is that his real name?

Well, cheer up guys, we still have Men's Workout and Exercise for Men Only. Their "How to please your woman" articles are so half-hearted, they're only a page long.

The whole hetero thing isn't so much for the readers as it is for the advertisers. You want to see how magazines are serfs to advertisers, read Gloria Steinem's article "Sex, Lies and Advertising" sometime. It was written in 1990 before the advent of the male mags, but it applies just as much.

  6. Cargo is SUCH a gay magazine...Doesn't matter how much they try to "hetero" it up!

  7. Nooooo!

I loved Cargo. I have a subscription. I recommended it to friends.

Yes, you get gadget news faster from blogs, but Cargo is so much more than gadgets. And I wanted something that showed me really great stuff, not news on every little piece of junk. The editors are usually great at finding genuinely good stuff every month.

I also loved it precisely because it was sexually indifferent. Every page was every bit as relevant and useful for me as a for straight man.

Now that's clearly changed. I don't get it - why turn it into just another straight man's general-interest magazine? There are hundreds of those, it seems. I don't see the logic in it.

Anyway, that's it for me. I'm cancelling my subscription today. Screw 'em. (...or not, apparently)

  8. JOHNNY KNOXVILLE and BEN AFFLECK

I must have been sick that day in school when the topic was covered.

What in the world are "Fruit Basket, Pressed Ham, The Upper Decker, The Dirty Sanchez."

    I honestly do not know.

    Thanks.
