All in a Day's Work

Andersoncooper

Over the past couple weeks it appears that the mainstream news reporters have finally developed some sort of a backbone. Salon documents it in this "Reporters Gone Wild" montage. I suggest it be renamed "Reporters Start Doing Their Jobs."

  1. There's a similar article in the NY Times. Looks like we won't be seeing Anderson in Chelsea anytime soon:

  3. Or it's just CNN's latest schtick....

"The TV news networks, which only a few months ago were piously suppressing emotional fireworks by their pundits, are now piously encouraging their news anchors to break out of the emotional straitjackets and express outrage. A Los Angeles Times colleague of mine, appearing on CNN last week to talk about Katrina, was told by a producer to "get angry."

  4. This is not CNN's "latest schtick" but rather the news media waking up to reality.

Despite the political inconvenience of poor people for the bushies, poor americans really do exist...no amount of political wallpaper is going to erase that. the katrina disaster has vividly shown our citizenry that things are not completely okay in america. while not specifically bush's fault, serious racial, economic, and social problems exist that should be addressed by the president at some point in his two terms, especially one who calls himself "a compassionate conservative". yes, that means those richest 1% of americans may have to wait for a few months for their next tax cut, the elimination of the estate tax...remind me to tear for them.

anderson cooper is right to be mad because he has seen first hand the devastation and the s--l--o--w response of "brownie" and the federal government in this crisis.

I am sure gay neo-cons would love to dismiss this as liberal whining, but do so at your own political risk, because sometimes reality even trumps the rovian/orwellian spin machine. the american people are waking up to the fact that this president always evades responsibility...as he has done all his life, including the draft; the failure of his oil businesses; the unofficial smear campaigns against richards, mccain, and kerry; cooking of the intelligence books on WMDs in Iraq; the widening budget deficit, and the inadequate response to Katrina.

my marine corps father just shakes his head at this obvious lack of leadership and personal courage.

  5. Hey Joe, prepare to defend Clinton and/or Carter. That's who the Neo-Cons go after after a speech like that. :P

  6. Okay..

My uncle's sister (I believe it is his siter, we've never met) had been dismissed from her hospital care 2 days prior to the storm. She is in New Orleans, he lives in Atlanta and is my uncle by marriage to my aunt.

Unable to drive, his sister had a friend who was taking care of her. Wanting to avoid moving due to the recent surgery, they opted to stay.

Katrina hit. Levee disintegrates. Flood waters rush in.

No sizeable food. No safe water. No way to administer medicine (it had to be refrigerated). Among all the other things that were trying to live. Rats and their ilk do not just wait to drown you know.

After 5 days they were finally rescued which was a blessing and a curse. They were airlifted out via National Guard chopper. She is now in the hospital suffering from infections and poor post surgical care. New injuries were sustained in the airlift itself due to the harness and her age.

She is hanging on right now.

I'm not saying this to be dramatic. I have tried to take out the adjectives so that the "cries of hysteria" are not heard in my voice.

    This is just ONE story.

I would however appreciate it if you would all take a moment to say a quick prayer or send some positive energy for those who have had to endure this horrible event.

    Love to you all.

  7. The poverty rate today is exactly the same as it was when LBJ launched the great society. In a free, racially diverse society, there will always be an underclass, just as there is a growing muslim underclass in France, Germany and elsewhere in Europe where they import poor workers to do the dirty work.

Go check the governments expenditures on anti-poverty programs. We now spend more than we spent when Clinton was in office so the notion that Bush doesn't care about black people or the poor just doesn't wash.
