Alan Ball is developing a vampire series for HBO and will write, produce, and direct the pilot. Based on books by Charlaine Harris, the series takes place in a world where vampires and humans co-exist after the development of synthetic blood. This sounds like just about the perfect project for Ball, combining the creepy casket qualities of Six Feet Under with the strange social complexities of American Beauty. Way to pick a project.

It's so great to see that Ball will continue to work with HBO. Six Feet Under was a marriage made in heaven.

Maybe you should check out a British Series called Ultraviolet. It's about a group of vampires trying to synthesize artificial blood and the human police team who are trying to stop them. The series is smartly done. Apparently, it was only one season long, so they kind of left us hanging. The series asked a lot of tantalizing questions that I can see Alan Ball having fun with.
You can buy the cd on Amazon.
