Chaos in Windsor as Two Queens Marry

Elton_wedding_3 Elton_hand

Elton John and David Furnish held their civil partnership ceremony
(or should I say "royal wedding") at the Guildhall in Windsor yesterday and planned a 700-person ceremony at their estate to celebrate.

Elton called it "the happiest day of my life" while some gay rights activists like Peter Tatchell of OutRage called the new civil partnerships "a form of legal apartheid based on sexual orientation." Tatchell did speak, however, of the hope the high-profile ceremony would give gay people around the world: "Their same-sex civil partnership ceremony will be reported all over the world including in countries where news about gay issues is normally never reported. This will give hope to millions of isolated, vulnerable, lesbian and gay people especially those living in repressive and homophobic countries."

  3. Awesome. I'm just a little jealous... I'm beginning to despair of it ever happening here.

  4. Since Elton is a British knight, by tradition his spouse would be entitled to the courtesy-honorific "Lady". Since "...it's a man, baby"; should David now be styled "the Honorable David Furnish"? Or does his Canadian passport provide a "get out of jail free" pass to the sweating Old Guard on this matter of protocol?

Quick, summon the College of Heralds for a ruling.

  5. Congratulations!! Maybe someday I will have the prevelage with my partner. One thing is sure though it won't be here in belize. Elton I wish one day I could be as lucky as you.

  6. Congratulations and all, but why weren't they MARRIED in Canada where it is 'legal'? David is a Canadian citizen-in the UK it is still a civil ceremony. Just asking...

  7. wondering why he and toronto's david didn't opt for full marriage in canada awhile ago, rather than waiting till now only to settle for a "civil partnership" ?
and if it had taken liberace this long to get married would we have thought him heroic ?

  8. Kudos to you A.J.-my point exactly. BTW, they met at Blake's in Atlanta. I was there that night-kinda weird because I knew both of them. Anyway-why didn't they get married in Canada?

  9. I'll make one more comment then I will shut-up. Elton's 'American house' is in Atlanta. There was a thing called 'Elton's boy's' awhile back. Elton would buy his guys a new Porshe, Jag, etc., for their shutting-up. Not that I know that from personal experience. BTW, it only has 32,000 miles on it.

  10. Who's the bride?

Who gets to throw the bouquet?

Who gets carried over the threshold?

  11. tho i will admit, as a teengay in the mid70's... elton dropped by a gay afterhours in toronto called the Manatee (isn't "seacow" a great name for a gayclub!) and sat himself in the corner for about an hour during the 2am dragshow... and i sat across watching him from my corner. seeing him at that seedy club at 16 yrs of age surely boosted my endurance to continue coming-out. imagine if he empowered millions of gayguys in the 70's and 80's by behaving abit less ashamed.

  12. YAY, let's give those two guys a big high-5. Imagine the press...the biggest celebrity "wedding" of 2005 and it's two men. David helped Elton get sober...and it appears these two are in LOVE. Their civil union will be recognized in Canada...and who knows, they might just do it again over here. Elton and David kept the ceremony a private family affair....very classy. I must admit, I would have loved to be at the after-party. Congratulations guys.

  13. God Save The Queen(s)..........

  14. I agree - why not Canadian marriage, Elt? Then again, John has always been ultra Brit, happy to pay the higher UK taxes the wealthy must pay, rather than more economically opt for citizenship elsewhere.

David may have saved someone's life when he got Elton sober, but he didn't do a pantload for the listening world in the process. Elton John sober is like the late Richard Pryor sober: creatively nowheresville.

  15. I think we need to do the same here in America for our gay citizens and let them marry!

  17. In a time where the religious right would love to find any reason to denigrate us we do it to ourselves. Calling them Queens is just a stupid statement. We should be happy for the two MEN who got married, not finding ways to insult OUR OWN. Funny is one thing but let's avoid finding ways for str8 america finding us the butt of their jokes. What we say privately is one thing but what we put in print can do use too much damage. Queen=effemine=less then=marginalism. This is not the time for this.
