Dreamgirls Underway

Dreamgirls3 Dreamgirls2

Dreamgirls5 Dreamgirls4

It seems as if many of the new films are producing "extras" now, and the new Dreamgirls film, adapted and directed by Bill Condon, offers up a behind the scenes short which you can either view online or download to your iPod (download) and PSP (download) along with the trailer. Condon has just begin principal photography after two months of rehearsals. The movie will be released in December. So nice to see Jennifer Hudson getting the opportunity here alongside Beyoncé.

  1. Can't wait!

  2. ...let's hope Condon can bring out the best in Beyonce. Each time that girl has been on-screen, it's become normal practice for audiences to squirm.

Ms. Hudson however, could not be more deserving of this role - worth waiting for!

  3. After her bypass, Jennifer Holliday looks thinner and younger, and she probably could've fit in with the cast for the film.... I know, it would've been too expected and too easy to have her AGAIN, but at least she's been practicing for the past 25 years!

  4. Is it just me... or do you any of you feel that it's odd and in poor taste to use Jennifer Holiday's tony award winning rendition of "And I Am Telling You" as the teaser for the trailer?

  5. I totally agree with jeffrey about the teaser trailer. It's also kinda confusing for people that have never heard "And I am Telling You" because they might think that it's Jennifer Hudson or Beyonce singing. I wouldn't say it's poor taste, but exceptional marketing because that song is so fucking powerful and that song alone will make people want to check out the movie. I mean come on does anyone actually think that Jennifer Hudson will sing that song better than Holliday. No way! Hudson can sang, but the original just shouldn't be messed with.

  6. Well if anybody can F with it it would be Jennifer Hudson - she's got great range and power. The original is just so epic and grand, J-Hloi really put it DOWN! I wish them all the best. Im excited about how good this movie just might be.

  8. Holiday was robbed.

  9. Um, that is NOT J. Hud singing, it's Ms. Holiday... I heard it enough time to know :) But, the editing is wierd at the end, the try to end the song by blending MEEEEEEs and taking out all of emoting and riffing...lol...I guess if you've never heard it before, you don't notice, but it seems like blantantly bad editing and mixing to me.

  10. It seems that, Jennifer Holliday's booming contralto and broadway acting experience would have been perfect, to play a role she knows like the back of her hand. Yet, she was ignored. Maybe she was overlooked because she's over 40 and too thin to convincingly play Effie.

Although, I'm sad that Jennifer Holliday want be in the new movie, on the other hand, I'm tremendously elated for Jennifer Hudson. She's finally being recognized more in the mainstream of entertainment. Hudson's star is very young, fresh and trying to sparkle. Holliday's star dimmed moons ago. Hudson's look, age, and voice is clearly more marketable than Holliday's look, age, and voice. History proves Holliday's poor sales records. In the movies, as in music, universal appeal, age, and the great potential for fiscal gain reign supreme. Potential fiscal gain is in fact, the root of all entertainment productions. Investors only have interest in making money, not losing it. Hence, the huge roster of "proven" income producers that were summoned to work in the new movie, such as: Jamie Foxx, Danny Glover, Eddie Murphy, etc. Movie-goers have paid multi-millions to see those actors in recent years.

It's all about the benjamins, baby! Kaching!!!!

  11. Has anyone SEEN Ms Holiday lately? I just returned from a Gala fundraiser, she performed beautifully vocally and spritually. She's more demure and her voice is just as powerful as it was 25 years ago!! Whoever is casting the part of Effie needs to get a reality check! Ms Holiday can not only do the job, but pack the house!!! She's beautiful and feeling herself!!

  12. HELLO EVERYONE; I WAS AN USHER AT SHUBERT THEATRE IN 1983, WHEN DREAMGIRLS WAS FEATURED THEIR, WITH THE INCOMPRABLE JENNIFER HOLLIDAY. AS MUCH AS I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO SEE JENNIFER REPRISE HER ROLE ON THE BIG SCREEN, I AM GLAD THAT JENNIFER HUDSON GOT THE ROLE OF EFFIE. ALTHOUGH, SHE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO ERASE MY PREFERANCE FOR HOLLIDAY ORIGNAL PERFORMANCE, I THINK SHE IS VERY CAPABLE. HOLLIDAY COULD AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHOSEN FOR THE ROLE, BUT WE KNOW HOW MUCH HOLLYWOOD LOVES THE YOUTH MARKET.

  13. Saw the last performance (ever!) that Ms. Holliday performed of "the" song. Not a dry eye in the house at the end of "And I Am Telling You." Saw her replacement, too. Don't know how anyone could do it better than the original. Wishing J. Hudson the best in following a very hard act.

  14. To the Usher with Alzheimer's Disease:

Dreamgirls played at the Imperial Theater from 81 to 83

Jennifer holiday left the building on December 18th 1982 after a one year run and continued her role of Effie Melody White at the SHUBERT Theater in CA. Her understudy was a little known hopeful names Lillias White who reprised the role in NYC in 91 and then for the Actor's Fund in 2002.

  15. I was lucky enough to receive a bootleg copy from a member of my family who saw J Holiday at her very last performance in NYC.

I can't recommend to those who have a heart condition for fear you may get too excited and have a coronary.

I also know her representatives who have gone on to say it was a typical star whose light has burned out. After the divorces and the draining of her money, J Holiday plays clubs and small benefits. She'll take whatever she can get. She'll sing at your kid's birthday party if she has too.

How very sad but in a way inspiring. She was dragged here to NYC at 18 to perform in a little known show with Patty Label called "Your Arms are too short to box with God"

I listened to her very first album she made when she lived in TX. A voice that children today could never comprehend. How fortunate was I to have the good fortune of hearing her as she become popular.

If Jennifer Hudson fucks this up I will be so god damn pissed

  16. Don't you worry Dreamboat!! They have been screen testing Dreamgirls the movie in LA and people have been really commenting positivly on Jennifer Hudsons portrayel of Effie White. Standing up in the theater and clapping and carrying one. They said she really did the damn thing. So - WORRY NOT!!!!!! I cannot WAIT for this movie!
