Brokeback Shirts off Their Backs

Brokeback_shirts

Jack Twist and Ennis del Mar's shirts worn in the 1963 portion of Brokeback Mountain are up for auction at eBay to benefit Variety, the children's charity of Southern California. Looks like they'll go for a fairly good price, but I wonder, do they still have that cowboy stank in 'em?

Jack, I swear...

  2. How bout we all chip in a few bucks and buy Andy these skanky, bloodstained blouses?

  3. Ang Lee should buy them for Andy.

  4. Perhaps some well-funded individual can purchase them and then donate it to a museum.

  5. I was all set to go all out and bid a few thousand, but after 53 bids the price has already gone to $5300.00, and there's a long way to go.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it go over $10K.

  6. If they're not snapped up by some god-awful Vegas Hard Rock franchise then where should they be displayed I wonder? Hmm.

I think they'll go for thousands. If I had them I'd give them to Andy too.

  7. You're right. Too bad we can't pick and choose the buyer.

    Matthew?
Why don't you buy it for Andy?
You've made it clear to us that you are feasibly capable.

  8. I never thought I'd say anything like this, but, yeah - those shirts belong in whatever section of whatever cool museum pays tribute to the roles of gays in film, on and offstage.

Come to think of it: that WOULD be one fucking amazing museum.

  9. Sorry I am spending money on my own version of Brokeback Mountain. It is called Brokeback Hill. Set in modern times. It is about two queens dressed in designer cowboy duds who spend the entire day bitching about how hard it is to be gay in America. They of course will be in the closet because so many cowboys are still hanging out in the closet. Instead of roasting cans of beans over the fire they will sip starbucks and cry about gay rights. There will be many jabs at a right wing administration that 'done em wrong'. The catch? In the end they will get married because I am a sucker for a happy endings. Oh and the bad administration will bomb the terrorists - and save the world. The happy couple will realize the administration is not so bad and they will all have a hardy laugh while the bad terrorist goes up in flames. But we are working on the ending.

Gorge Clooney and Sean Penn are slated to star. I am trying to get BABS (Clooney has offered) to direct. It is going to be a smash. I a cannot wait to see the feedback I get on this site. Productions is early next year!!

  13. You'd think that with all his $$$$$
Heath Ledger would buy em & give em to The Smithsonian where they'd be draped over Archie Bunker's east chair.

  14. I'm not sure of his tone or not but Matt is either an asshole or a man in need of long term therapy. I love the line about the 'fags' getting happily married, as if most straigth people are happy. Get a clue you self hating idiot, people are the same, whether gay or straight, and your self serving bs is a good example.

  17. Patrick!

    Just play along...

It's so much easier than getting upset.

And, once in awhile, a fascinating tidbit does come through those lips.

    Jay,

    Wow. Mindboggling total.

  19. I have to say, regarless of who buys the shirts, it's a brilliant idea to sell them. Gilli, you're the one who started it with Matthew! Incidentally, how do we know there's only one of each shirt? Wardrobe could have had five or six and they're selling the cleanest one.

  20. Patrick I am sorry you are so bitter about marriage. Bad memories from childhood? Maybe you never found the man of your dreams...I don't know. I hope someday you find happiness. I have a great therapist if you need one.

I am going for a walk in the 88 degree weather. You boys have fun with your jack and anus shirt.

  22. I know it's a charity and all, but there a few things off. Why are the shirts in Ontario? That's the seller's location, at least. Also, why is there is no actual picture of the shirts? In any other eBay auction, this would set off serious alarms. Anybody can post a still from the film. Is this charity even for real? I haven't bothered to Google it, and at $15K, I don't really care anymore.

  23. This happens to be a seller with a good track record of doing business on eBay.

    Seller: varietyskids ( 134)
    Feedback Score: 134
    Positive Feedback: 99.3%
Member since May-14-04 in United States

At least it's not one of those Chinese eBay sellers, who auction their sketchy merchandise for a few dollars, and when you read the fine print, you find you're being charged a hundred dollars for shipping.

  25. Patrick I'm not sure I'd be so quick to consider a therapist referral from Matthew.

    I'm just sayin'.
