It Was Just Too Easy

New_yorker_brokeback_1 Bushcheney

The New Yorker takes a potshot at Dick Cheney with this week's issue. They're the first print publication I've seen to jump on the Brokeback poster spoof chuck wagon. The title of the cover illustration by Mark Ulriksen?

"Watch Your Back Mountain".

We have seen a similar fan-created iteration of BushCheney (above right) in relation to Brokeback, but that was before the shooting incident. The VP sprayed this twist into Conde Nast's lap. Or would that be Conde Nasty?

The Cheney shooting incident was also parodied on last night's Late Show as Dave premiered a new spoof commercial "from the White House" encouraging the press to move on to other topics of importance aside from this silly shooting incident.

  1. Will this Brokeback mountain crap ever end? I love this blog, i' ve been reading pretty much every post for almost a year, but it's just because there's a gay character in a bad movie (sorry, to me, Brokeback mountain is a cornier version of Legends of the Fall -- kinda thing) that we have to follow every little thing related to it?

  2. Jonas, you may be concerned about the superabundance of BBM fecal excrement, but I think it's important to recognize it for what it is: something to talk about other than George Bush! And, anyway, yes, we have to follow every little thing related to it because this is Mr. Towle's blog and he likes it. So there!

  3. Sheesh Jonas, you log on to this blog for free so if you don't like Andy's choices or in your case, have had it with his incessant Brokeback Mountain coverage, stop whining like a pre-schooler with a bad rash and just scroll down and skip to the next topic. I don't always like his posts but I always keep in mind that the man doesn't have to be doing this. You know what I mean? Try to be more thankful and more appreciative.

  4. Pretend it is a TV. Change the channel if you don't like what's on the screen. It isn't being forced on us!

Even though I still haven't seen it; and am frightened-to-death of those two shirts in the closet.

  9. THAT NEW YORKER COVER IS DEGRADING TO THE MOVIE. It's a little annoying that such a "clever" magazine couldn't come up with something better.
