Kabbalist Blames Bird Flu on Gay Marriage

David Basri, a well-known Kabbalah preacher, has said that bird flu is God's punishment for the campaign to legalize gay marriage in Israel. Sound familiar? Just another contingent of wingnuts scapegoating gays for the problems of the world.

BirdfluDavid Basri's son quoted his father, according to PinkNews: "God punishes depravity first through plagues against animals and then in people. It should be obvious, he concluded, that bird flu is caused by political parties 'strengthening and encouraging homosexuality.'"

The Head of British Liberal Judaism laughed at the wingnut: "This is so stupid it’s hardly worth responding to, but even scientists are not sure why bird flu has occurred, so I suppose this man is entitled to his flight of fancy. As far as I’m aware birds are not categorised by their sexuality, so what they have to do with gay marriage I don’t know. This Kabbalist seems to be muddled by his own mysticism and mystery. He must be a confused, sad man."

Those Kabbalists. What would Madonna have to say about all this? I think I have an idea: This bird has flown.

  1. You know why He picked bird flu . . . the gay penguins! They doomed us all!

  2. There is no hysterical homophobic and "holy" condemnation that should be left unchallenged by People of Theistic Faith everywhere.

These utterances translate into first verbal and often physical violence, even death, at the hands of those who purge their self-hatred with doing murder.

  3. A friend was a Kabballaher and was told by his rabbi that his soul-mate was a woman and that he was not really gay. Okay, he was more than a friend; I'd totally been with him and could assure any rabbi that would have asked me: this was one very gay gay.

Which makes me wonder why Sandra B. is still riding that pony...

  4. Doesnt matter. The only guys who follow Kablablahlala are gay or celebrities.

  5. Read "The End of Faith" by Matt Harris. It's time that superstition and unfounded myths be challenged by reason and ethics. Living in the 21st century and basing one's worldview on
ancient and outmoded texts of dubious authorship is a threat to the entire planet.

  6. Literal interpretations of religious texts always lead to insane comments like these. Such accusations of knowing "divine will" really amount to blasphemy, don't they?

  7. Bravo, Busytimmy. I could not express it more clearly. Same goes for astrology . . . I am so tired of people determining who is a good fit for relationships or friendships because of when each person was born. Utter nonsense.

  8. Let's just face it... bird flu was caused by Madonna and the other celebrity Kabbalists. We all know it's true, and now the gay community's dirty little secret is out. I feel liberated somehow... maybe the truth really does set you free.

  9. Wow, bird flu blamed on the gays. That's a new one. I don't even...wow.

  10. Basri may only be well known for one thing; Hating Gays.

Jerusalem -- About 3,000 gay, lesbian and bisexual Israelis, some in army uniform and others in full drag, brought the center of Jerusalem to a standstill Thursday as they marched from the city's main Ben Yehuda pedestrian precinct to a lively open-air party in Liberty Bell Park under a banner proclaiming "Love Without Borders."

In the days leading up to the march, some ultraorthodox Jewish leaders condemned the public expression of homosexuality as "ugly" and unsuitable for the holy city. David Basri, a Kabbalistic rabbi, described homosexuals and lesbians as "subhuman" and said they would be reincarnated as "rabbits."

  12. Religion is supposed to be a journey of personal spiritual enlightenment, not a weapon of oppression and authoritarian control. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Rabbi, prove it with facts or STFU! (I won't be holding my breath.)

  13. "Religion is supposed to be a journey of personal spiritual enlightenment."

  14. Can't speak for Birtish Reform Judiasm, , but Americna Reform Judasm is pro gayh marriage. Rumor has ti that the American Conservative movement is following in reform's footseps and going to accpet gay rabbis. If you ever want to read one of the most moving religious treatises on homosexuality, do a serach on the writngs of Rabbi Harold Schulweiss.

Also, next time a wingnut brings up Livitcus, have them read aboutKind David and Joanthan, Saul's son in Samuel 1. in faxt, one has to think that Saul is driven to insanity by David because he LOVES him!

  15. Yet it appears that only Israeli gay marriage gets the birds sick. Once again, the Middle East screws it up for all of us.

  16. I have been a student of the Kabbalah for almost nine years. The first rule in Kabbalah is never believe anything you read or hear. Take it for a test drive and experience it for yourself. So far no bird Flu! Does this mean I must be straight!? Not sure which is worse.

  17. I cannot belive in this day and age that a religeous leader is permitted to utter such HATE!! If a gay man had said that about his faith and its followers, can you imagine what the public outcry would have been like??? Let's hope this twat believes in Karma, cos if he does, I hope he is chased down a dark alley by a big Neo-Nazi straight into the arms of a suicide bomber!!
