The Real World: Key West's Tyler on Friendster

Tyler_real_world

The 17th season of The Real World premiered last night, and while the show itself is par for the course, the gay contestant Tyler has already proven himself to have a quick tongue and a biting sense of humor. We've already shown you a few glimpses of that insanity.

Tyler_keywest_shirtlessWhile folks have been buzzing today about the MySpace profiles of many of the Key West housemates (sans Tyler), we were able to dig up his Friendster profile in which he shows a definite consistency of personality. The swimsuit pose here is described by the housemate as "as gay as it gets."

And being Tyler's Friend(ster) apparently has its own special dangers:

I've created a list of ailments that friends of mine have recently suffered from. Perhaps this illustrates what being my friend will ultimately mean for you!

1: Back Spasms
2: Dead Grandma
3: Chlamydia
4: Vaginal Atrophy
4 1/2: Breast reduction surgery
5: Bi-Polar Disorder
6: Anorexia
7: Yellow Fever
(Well, #7 may be a stretch)

When do you wanna hang out?!

All that said, I think we'd take the risk of hanging out with Tyler because there's little doubt, even if taken ill, that we'd be entertained.

  1. Juxtaposing the phrases 'real world' and 'Key West' tops the oxymoronic achievement of 'military intelligence'.

  3. Did anyone see that gay version of Real World? I think it was called Fire Island maybe? Wasn’t really the same premise actually because they all knew one another and they had a time-share beach house. Oh, and I think there were some lesbians in another house on the same beach but I barley remember them causing any drama. What I remember most was the shaved head guy who felt responsible for making everyone be responsible and if anyone didn’t he would have a complete meltdown. What also sticks in my mind was the body builder type who was trying to decide what to wear to the beach party. It took him 4 hours to build up his esteem just to go out and blend into a crowd of about 100 other gay men. He was so debilitated by this I felt very sorry for him.

That’s all I remember. Otherwise, it was pretty boring. Are we that boring that we can’t have our own Real World? I always assumed a Gay Real World would be off the hook.

  5. Saw Tyler on the Real World. He was just another kid who felt it cool to make fun of others, like labelling one person an anorexic and calling someone he knew for a day "Slutlanna." Yep, the kind of person I definitely don't want in my life.

The Real World seems to traffic in stereotypes every year: the frat guy, the mean-spirited gay guy, the angry black guy, the bi-racial (caucasian/black) girl, blah, blah, blah, etc.

Why couldn't they have the football playing gay guy to pop stereotypes, or the Ivy League black guy, etc.?

  8. Is this show still on the air? I stopped watching it after London in '94. The best was San Francisco. They didn't have a cap on the age. At the time I believe the cast members ranged from 22-34 years of age. It was SOOO much better. They actually had careers (gasp! what a shocker for the new Real World), personalities, ambitions, hell Pedro was suffering from AIDS and was lecturing across the country. Now, it's a bunch of spoiled, obnoxious, stereotyped Abercombie and Fitch wannabe's with waaaay too much time and waaay too much drama. I tried watching it once a few years ago, my head hurt...

  10. I find it more than interesting to see people clammering for a gay football player on the real world while villifying anything but. Is it because Tyler perhaps illustrates qualities that other homos hate in themselves? Classic internalized homophobia. Instead of stereotyping tyler as "just another queen", perhaps one should wait to judge, and see that he actually is a talented athlete. Competing at NCAAs and the national championships in swimming. it may be the case the he, unlike some other gay people, are comfortable in their skin, even if it is the proverbial flamboyant one. I enjoy it as fine camp. Additionally, its the real world, lets try not to take these characters all that serious. They may not even take themselves that serious in the end.

  11. TYLERRRRRRRRRR! I knew Tyler way back when in Junior high through highschool and I just want to let everyone know that Tyler is who he is and doesn't try to be anyone else and I love him for that. Hes never one to say something behind someone's back but not be able to be up front with someone. Hes the most fun person to be around and always had me laughing in school and I love the kid! Everyone else lay off!!!!!!

  12. You are one of the biggest idiots I've ever seen --

Seriously, you think you're better than pretty much everyone else -- when in reality you're an moronic faggot. You'll never amount to anything b\c well -- you're you.

  13. Dude.....tyler, you are possibly the LAMEST excuse for a human being ever.

  14. Tyler, if you ever read this... YOU ARE THE BIGGEST MOTHER FUCKER I HAVE EVER SEEN IN ANY REAL WORLD SEASON! I would be embarresed to ever live, or even meet you. Your behavior sucks. Your personality sucks. I feel extremely bad for the other roomates for having to deal with you for months, and even worst, I feel worst for them for being fooled by you most of the times during the season. I hope we never see each other anywhere in the world, because I would just punch you in the face.
