Warblings from the Music World

Morrissey_tourroad.jpg Morrissey has never been especially cheerful, but it sounds like he really got up on the wrong side of the bed in an interview he did recently with Uncut magazine.

When asked about his recent snubbing of a $5 million offer to reunite with his former bandmates, Moz said: "It has been 18 years since it ended; I don't know them, they don't know me, they know nothing about me, I know nothing about them. Anything I know about them is unpleasant, so why on earth do we want to be on stage together making music?"

He also cuts into the Royal Family: "The very idea of Charles being king is laughable."

The Prime Minister and his wife: "I don't like his face, I don't like his expression. I don't think anybody else does. And I can't stand Cherie Blair's face, I just wonder if there can ever be a photograph of her where she has her mouth shut."

And celebrities in general: ""I was interested in intelligent celebrity. The word now is so base and disgusting and seems to apply to anybody that is anything but a celebrity."

We wouldn't have Morrissey any other way.

Crack_denroad.jpg Will someone please save Whitney Houston!
If possible.

road.jpg Arjan chats with Anastacia about her relationship with gay men, her record release plans, and her upcoming appearance at Palm Springs' White Party. She tells Arjan that if she were a gay diva who could rule the planet she'd make three things happen: "Legalize marriage for all, cure for AIDS, and a pill so no body fat or love handles can exist."

Imogen_heaproad.jpg Finally, the Guardian recently ran a great profile on Frou Frou singer-turned-solo artist Imogen Heap and how hard work and a few strokes of luck have put her at the top of the charts. Of her gorgeous song "Hide & Seek" which was featured on The OC and subsequently became a huge hit, she says, "It's just a magic thing that happened one evening. One night the computer died on me and I wanted to leave the studio having done something positive. I just played the first thing that came out of my head, and four and a half minutes later everything was there."

  1. 1/ Whitney - it`s a tragedy. I was never her biggest fan but for someone you love to have dragged you into such a hideous place is just wrong. You can only hope she survives at all, let alone with that glorious voice intact.
2/ God bless Anastacia. She truly is a fabulous woman. She is also very, very camp, which is always better in a woman.
3/ Imogen Heap - great talent. Her "I, Megaphone" album is magnificent.

  2. First, I agree with the above comment. "I Megaphone" was a wonderful album. I was somewhat hoping "Speak For Yourself" was along the same veins, but ah well, great nonetheless.

Second, poor Whitney. Her star has fallen so low. You would think with all her powerful friends someone would just drag her to rehab. What a waste.

  3. Seriously, Morrissey is just such a tired, old queen now that his rantings are up there with Sir Elton's. Don't get me wrong, I uesd to love his music, I've not really followed him for a while, but ever since I saw him sitting up front at a Madonna show a few years back I decided that all of his spouting about his boredom with celebrities and the banality of pop culture is just bullshit. He's getting laid now, he should lighten up.

  4. Peter, don't for one second think that this is all B Brown's fault. They were birds of a feather from day one. Whitney is from East Orange, NJ. That might not mean anything to you, but trust me, she is not innocent in any of this.

  5. I agree with RIC: Morrissey needs to get laid or laid better. Turning into catwoman isn't pretty in middle age, or any age for that matter.

  6. I agree that it's not at all fair to say that BB turned Whitney out. That's a perception based on the clean princess image she had to portray to rise to where she did but everyone I know said they always knew she had a ghetto edge to her. How much did that woman get for her photos and what on earth does Bobby say about it?

  7. Imogen Heap was a solo artist BEFORE Frou Frou- "I Megaphone" was her first major release. "Details" (Frou Frou's one and only album) was probably the worst of the three, though it is still amazing. I think its funny how people reference the OC when they talk about Imogen, but she owes a lot to Garden State as well for getting "Let Go" looped on all our CD players. Currently looped is "Cant Take It In" from the Chronicles of Narnia.

  8. It seems that, like earning millions by just depressing a few keystrokes on a computer, the "celebrity" is so described because he or she simply "is" the object of desire and "affection or revulsion" to the masses drugged on corporate "entertainment media" ...Panem et circenses- 21st century-style.

  9. "Seriously, Morrissey is just such a tired, old queen now that his rantings are up there with Sir Elton's."

Actually it's much wore. Morrissey frequently praises eco-fascist terroist groups ALF and ELF and is a staunch supporter of PeTA. Remember PeTA? The organisation whose head Ingrid Newkirk once said: "Even if animal testing helped develop a cure against AIDS, we'd still be against it."?

I cannot imagine how any self-respecting homosexual can but despise Morrisseys views. Compared to those animal rights nuts even the catholic church is harmless!

  10. Martin,

You have a point. I guess the key word here is "self-respect". I guess that just comes with age. When I was younger I thought Morrissey could do no wrong. Maybe he just plays to that demo. I don't know if I despise his views as much as I just think he's a big hipocrite.
