Larry Miller Proud He Made Money Off Bigotry

Larry_miller_1

For the first time since he refused to screen Brokeback Mountain at his Utah theater chain, Larry Miller is speaking about his controversial decision, but before he apologizes to anyone, he needs to brag about all the people that bought cars from him because of it:

"I had 12 people call and say I bought a car from you today, 'because', and then 27 the next day and then 12 the 3rd day."

Wow. It must have been the right decision then. Good for the greedy bastard.

He offers this reason for pulling the film:

"Getting away from the traditional families, which I look at as the fundamental building block of our society, is a very dangerous thing."

Perhaps if Miller had seen the film he might have realized that the same bigotry he practices is what drove the characters of Jack and Ennis into "traditional" marriages that were ultimately far more damaging to the families involved than what might have taken their place in a tolerant and accepting society.

  1. "Perhaps if Miller had seen the film he might have realized that the same bigotry he practices is what drove the characters of Jack and Ennis into "traditional" marriages that were ultimately far more damaging to the families involved than what might have taken their place in a tolerant and accepting society"

    Well said!

  3. Does Miller analyze every film he books? Considering the number of films about crime, extramarital affairs etc, his theaters would be out of business if he relied solely on “traditional values” films.

  4. Doesn't he know that Jesus hates rich people???

  5. Good call Myackie! I seem to remember Jesus saying something about it being easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into the kingdom of god. (of course, that was way back in my Jehovah's Witness childhood... shudder.)

  6. People would buy car from him just because he decided not to show a gay movie????I really think that the fundies obsession with homosexuality is getting out of hand.Even Tom Cruise seems real next to them.

  8. So, Larry Miller is a proud bigot and homophobe. This is no surprise coming from a proud citizen of Utah, the land of female enslavement though polygamous marriage. Larry Miller ought to be careful before he starts casting stones, they're liable to bounce back and hit him in the face.

  9. Is violence a traditional family value where he comes from? Because I remember him becoming quite violent with a reporter asking questions. Pig. Where is a bolt of lighting when you need it.

  10. You know Larry, when I was a kid, the nuns and priests taught me that it was YOUR lifestyle (IIRC, he's a Mormon) that was destroying society. After all, it's considered a cult and as immoral a "lifestyle" as being gay.

Meanwhile, as Brokeback was dropped from his theater, Hostel, featuring what I have heard is the most graphic gore presented on screen, played merrily along. 'Cause it's fine to teach kids violence, but not adults tolerance.

  11. Maybe if traditional families are so important to him, his company should stop buying ads in gay magazines and sponsoring pride events. Or maybe they should just stop accepting his money.

  12. Larry Miller is big, fat, stupid, white, Mormon bigot. He believes he is a Mormon God. His unmitigated audacity to take away the free agency of others with or without his values by deciding what's right and what's wrong on their behalf is beyond ignorance. That is the same plan his precious Bible preaches against. A cultist jerk like him forgets that there is no victory if there is no choice. That's what his scary Devil wanted. Larry Miller, wake up! Your hate, judgement and bigotry will not get you into any of your Mormon Heavens. Practice tolerance and acceptance, and maybe your God will forgive you.

  13. If that stupid fat fuck sold 40 cars in three days...then the local IRS really needs to check out his tax returns...he's probably a cinch for an audit. Just the kind of Republikkkan who cheats on his taxes and vots Bush fro tax cuts to the wealthy.

  14. If Larry Miller wants to publicly declare his intent to promote family values, I think the people of Utah ought to hold him to that very thing! Why don't Utahans boycott all "R"- rated movies, for example, since that's part of the rules faithful mormons follow, right? (They avoid all "R"-rated movies, regardless of content, subject matter, theme, etc.)

I remember seeing "American Beauty" in that very theater several years ago and find it odd that LJM is deeming "American Beauty" as supportive of "family values" but takes a stand against Brokeback Mountain.

But in Utah, his stand buys him business, so obviously this is whete his morality lies. What a loser.
