Jake Gyllenhaal offends Gulf War veterans with "masturbation" comment and offends others (but not this blogger) by wearing spandex.
Mother says she abducted her son from a South Florida school and fled to Costa Rica because she was afraid her gay ex-husband would "turn" him gay. She's now an artist living in Key West. "The boy, whose identity is being withheld by The Miami Herald because of his age, testified last week that his mother forced him to lie about being molested because she felt it was unfair that he lived with his dad."

Anderson Cooper reveals pain he feels over his brother Carter's suicide in his new memoir:
"For so long, I tried to separate myself from my past. I tried to move on, forget what I'd lost, but the truth is, none of it's ever gone away. I assumed he'd come up with his own way to deal with the loss (of their father). I thought he could take care of himself. If only I could have told him that he wasn't the only one. I abandoned him long before he abandoned me."
Anti-gay group predicts they'll have enough signatures to get a measure on the Illinois ballot this fall that would allow voters to choose whether they would like to define marriage as between a man and a woman.
A second Fort Bragg paratrooper has been sentenced after pleading guilty to participating in gay porn. He admitted to using marijuana and being paid $7,500 for the porn gig. He will spend three months in jail and be discharged from the Army. He is the second paratrooper from the 82nd Airborne Division to strike a plea deal in the case.

I just want to say that I find the whole Fort Bragg/gay porn incident tragic and unjust. Infact to me it is a human rights violation. It is persecution, akin to a witch hunt. It is motivated by homophobia.

Jake's comment was a line from Jarhead. It was a joke. Man, people are so freakin' touchy.
And those pics of Oliver with the Scissor Sisters are great... that Ollie's one big hangin' man.

A clarification on the Illinois referendum. It's purely advisory--it invites the Illinois legislature to consider amending the state's constitution to define marriage as only between one man and one woman. The General Assembly is not obligated to act on the invitation (and almost certainly will not, if it is made).

How can anyone be found guilty of being in gay porn? How does that warrant jail time? And what about all the straight marine porn there is? I've never heard anything about them getting in any trouble. I hate double standards and I wish these soldiers would speak up and say something or call a lawyer... I mean it's bullshit to let this sort of thing continue because of some inherent proliferation of homophobia. Does anyone know, how does this break military law?

So, again Anderson Cooper will take about the personal pain of his private, family tragedy, but when someone asks him about his dating life or his sexuality, he trots out that old, tired line about not wanting to talk about anything that would be considered part of his private life. What a hypocrite. At least, if you're not going to talk about it, Anderson, stop saying it's because you don't talk about anything private, because you do. Just tell us it's none of our business.
I think even Andy here had pointed that out once.

jake sports the spandex nicely, but he should rethink featuring those skort-isch anklettes.

$7,500 for the porn? Guys, that's very big money for amateur gay fuck movie work. Bet the pot was on the house, too.

Andy, please post a link to the interview, a Jarhead promo piece, where Jake sez this. It's been taken out of context.
As it's also an observation made in the Jarhead movie itself, I wonder if it's taken from source author Anthony Swofford's book himself?
Masturbation, in a combat theatre, seems to be part of the military culture. The act of "combat jack" is related in the book "Black Hawk Down".

I am reminded of seeing Patti LeBelle in concert many years ago...she would take a moment and tell you a story about her dying sister who had cancer...she was appeared to be weeping as she told this story...it was poignant and memorable...recalling this story to someone years later, they would remark that they had seen the same show, and yes, was its sad about her sister.
It was evident that this "emotional" moment was not so spontanenous. It was in fact, a part of her act.
So too for Mr Anderson..this is about the third time I have read about the brother. I wonder just how many ways you can or would want to recount this story to the public?

"For so long, I tried to separate myself from my identity as a human being; from those I give my heart; from those with whom I make love. I tried to move on, forget what I do behind closed doors while wearing a pointless mask in public, but the truth is, none of it's ever going away. I assumed I had no responsibility to all those gay kids psychologically tortured everyday; kicked out by their families; tied to fences and beaten to death. If only I could have told them that they aren't the only ones. I abandoned them long before they were abandoned by others."

source is quite silly.
his awareness would have been better represented had he tasted himself....a better finish than the santa cap.

Wayne,
I'm sure that reporters bug AC about this every chance they get. You don't Really think it's something he wants to talk about all the time do you? I'm sure not. Just like they bug him about his sexuality--every chance they get.

Jake in spandex. The man can WEAR spandex, and wear it well!
As for any comment about masturbation... If it is a line from the movie that was used in as a quote, then shame on the reporter. If it was Jakes personal opinion, I would LOVE to have been the one helping him with the research! I think it's just stoopid that it even made it to print.
Come on, already. Men. Alone. For a really, really long time? Even in my mid-40's I get a chubby now and then that I gotta take care of, with or without fantacy stimulation. It's not like the line/comment was "the men did nothing but sit in the tents and blow each other". For Christ sake, stop making a bodily function something evil!!!!
Jake is hot.., just damn hot.

Love Anderson, but enough! He talks about his brother's suicide WAY too much.

I'm looking forward to Anderson's book. If you've watched him for a while you'd see that he rarely talks about his brother's death. I've only seen the Details he wrote a few years back and he briefly mentioned it on 360 when he was talking to someone who lost a son to suicide, I was pretty surprised he mentioned it because he generally tries to keep the focus off of his own life on the show. It's obviously something he's still struggling with and I don't see him discussing it at all exploitative, I'd expect to see him cover this subject in a memoir.

Anderson Cooper is an anti-gay self-hating homophobe because he hasn't used his position as a reporter to represent a vocal minority of gays who think reporters are bound by a gay code to infuse their own decidedly slanted gay opinion into every story they report on. Let’s smear him by taking his honest heartfelt revelations about tragic events in his personal life out of context and using them against him because he doesn’t do as we dictate. As a matter of fact let’s just go ahead and destroy him.
On second thought…

Man, the comments over at contact music are terrible. You know if soldiers and veterans are insulted by this then so be it but their points are completely disregarded once they start spouting disgusting slurs against homosexual men (and Jake by default for playing a gay man). I would have a lot more respect for their opinions if they didn't take such angry defenses and ignorant viewpoints. In any case, shame on them for even buying anything that Contact Music reports on when they have nothing to back it up with. This quote by Jake WAS taken out of context and if they took the time to read the actual context it was said in, they wouldn't be sounding so hateful. In fact, for all their talk on how they protect the country...frankly I don't feel so safe thinking that it's people like them who are doing so when it seems pretty clear based on the things they've said about gay men that they're not in it for the good of the entire nation.
Hell one guy even said that the reason why gay men shouldn't be in the military is because we're more like women when it comes to fighting (never mind that women are also fighting in the military...and obviously they don't have to hide behind "don't ask, don't tell").

Is it any wonder our soldiers would be all boo-hoo over this? The Bush administration, the GOP and plenty of dems for the past 5 years have been using the emotional vulnerability as a tool against their enemies by claiming that the troops morale can be harmed by - among other things - the mother of an dead soldier holding vigil outside the presidential ranch to protest the war.
If a soldiers' capcity to do his job is in any way diminished by low morale then he hasn't been properly trained. If he's not properly trained to the point that he lets his hurt feelings interfere with his duty to serve then he should be retrained. If he can't be retrained and he is still fighting on the frontlines then he is a danger to national security and should be removed from the service and whomever put him there should be retrained, and so on and so on.
If we keep being told we have the best forces on earth why are we so concerned with their hurt feelings. Get over it and do your jobs.
