Gay Storks Deliver Children to Dutch Zoo

Gay_storks

A pair of gay male storks and a pair of lesbian storks are raising children in the Dutch zoo Parc Overloon, zookeepers recently announced. The males are reportedly raising a baby stork from a donor egg, while one of the females was fertilized by a male. All the chicks, two of which are pictured below, are doing fine.

  2. And the Christies say it "isn't natural" to be Gay or Lesbian and to raise kids to boot! Animals are smarter than man gives them credit for.

  5. I can't wait until the Christian right wing-nuts get ahold of this story and start pontificating about this being the reason God has plagued birds with the avian flu!

  6. Joe, the Dutch page says, that there are
three homosexual couples, two male-male and one female-female. One male couple hase one chick, the other male couple is still breeding, the female couple has two chicks.

In the care for the chicks, there is no difference between homo and hetero couples.

While the blog entry reads 'a donor egg',
the German page says 'the male storks have stolen the eggs from some females' and on the dutch page you find that 'the males have probably chased away a female from her nest'.

The text goes on with the useful information, that stork couples are mostly heterosexual (who would have thought?) and that there are 9 male and 7 female storks at the zoo. (6 out of 16 homosexual 37.5% )
